The Senora de Guadalupe Mission was established by Fray Garcia de San Francisco in 1659 in present-day Juarez, Mexico within walking distance from the Paso del Norte crossing for the local Manso and Suma Indians.
San Antonio de Senecú (also known as Senecú del Sur), was established in the spring of 1682 after the Pueblo Revolt, by the Piro Indians of Senecu, New Mexico. The mission was relocated numerous times until it is believed the Rio Grande claimed it in the early nineteenth century. The community of Senecu’ was re-established on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande, just more than a mile south of Ysleta.
San Lorenzo Mission was also founded because of the Pueblo Indian Revolt. Local Manso and Suma Indians were an intrical part of this community. The modern church is a couple miles away from downtown Juarez and was built around 1900 |
